Fehrenbach and Mane Lead UW-L Over Viterbo

La Crosse , Wis. Chris Fehrenbach and Tony Mane combined for 42 points Tuesday night as the UW-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 59-49 victory at city-rival Viterbo University at R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season with their win while the V-Hawks drop to 1-4.
Fehrenbach scored 25 points for UW-L, going eight-of-14 from the field, including five-of-11 from three-point range. He was four-of-five at the free throw line. Mane totaled 17 points, hitting six-of-14 from the field, including four-of-eight from three-point range. Mane also hit one-of-three free throws.
With the victory, UW-L has now won four consecutive Wells Fargo Alumni Cups over Viterbo and lead the all-time series, 10-9.
UW-L led by as many as eight in the first half at 12-4 with 15:24 remaining as Mane scored eight of the Eagles' first 12 points. Viterbo came back to go on a 10-0 run to lead 14-12, but UW-L finished the half on a 13-7 run to lead 25-21 at halftime.
The Eagles never trailed in the second half, taking a 37-28 lead with 10:31 left. The V-Hawks could get no closer than four points at 50-46 with 2:32 remaining and UW-L hit seven-of-eight free throws in the final :59 of the contest.
Fehrenbach and Mane each grabbed seven rebounds for UW-L and were a combined nine-of-19 from three-point range. Brandon Brown added five points for the Eagles while also finishing with three steals and two assists. Billy Kegler tied for the team lead with seven rebounds.
UW-L shot 40.0% from the field, including 45.0% (nine-of-20) from three-point range. The Eagles were 14-of-22 (63.6%) at the line. UW-L was outrebounded 44-30, but held Viterbo to 32.2% shooting. The V-Hawks were one-of-11 (9.1%) from three-point range and 10-of-15 (66.7%) at the free throw line.
Scott Buschman led Viterbo with 21 points and 18 rebounds. The 18 rebounds tied a single-game school record.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 24 hosting Ripon College (Wis.) in the Eagles' home-opener at 7 p.m.
