UW-L Releases 2009 Football Schedule; Six Home Games Set for New Stadium
For Immediate Release: Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team will play six home games in 2009 at the newly constructed Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles' complete 2009 schedule was released Thursday.
UW-L opens its campaign at East Texas Baptist University Saturday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. in Marshall, Texas. It will be the first-ever meeting between the teams. 
The Eagles play their next three contests at UW-L, including the home opener versus Azusa Pacific University (Calif) Saturday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. UW-L leads the all-time series, 2-1 after Azusa Pacific recorded a 13-10 victory in 2008.
UW-L hosts Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly Missouri-Rolla) Saturday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. in the first meeting between the teams.
The Eagles start Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play Saturday, Oct. 3 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 6 p.m. UW-L then travels to UW-Platteville Saturday, Oct. 10 and to UW-River Falls Saturday, Oct. 17.
The team returns home Saturday, Oct. 24 to host UW-Stevens Point for Family, Friends & Alumni Weekend. The Pointers advanced to the NCAA Division III Playoffs in 2008, falling to Wartburg College (Iowa) in the first round by the score of 26-21. UW-Stout comes to UW-L Saturday, Oct. 31. Both games start at 1 p.m.
UW-L travels to UW-Eau Claire Saturday, Nov. 7 before finishing its regular season Saturday, Nov. 14 hosting UW-Whitewater in a 1 p.m. kickoff. UW-Whitewater made its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA III Championship Game (Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl) last year, falling to Mt. Union College (Ohio) by the score of 31-26.
