UW-L Remains in Second Place at WIAC Championships

Oshkosh, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team remained in second-place after the second day of action at the WIAC Championships Friday night in Albee Hall at UW-Oshkosh. The Eagles have 555 team points while UW-Stevens Point is first with 634.
UW-Eau Claire is third (442) followed by UW-Whitewater (326), UW-Oshkosh (179) and UW-River Falls (124).
In Friday's action, Anthony Schmidt and Karl Richters came away with individual titles for the Eagles. Schmidt captured the 400 I.M. (4:10.82) while Richters won the 100 breaststroke (58.23). Richters met the NCAA Division III "B" qualifying time with his win in the 100 breaststroke.
UW-L had two relays place second Friday night. The 200 medley relay of Lance Scadden, Cole Swanson, Tony Wolff and Matthew Diehl were second with a national championship "B" qualifying time of 1:34.71. The Eagles' 800 freestyle relay of Richters, Diehl, Christopher Boyle and Michael Beilman placed second with a time of 7:00.63.
Other top finishes for UW-L included Swanson finishing third (59.36) and Michael Hruska fifth (59.79) in the 100 breaststroke while Scadden was third (53.67) and Casey Borden fifth (54.73) in the 100 backstroke. The Eagles' Wolff was fourth in the 100 butterfly (53.07) while Beilman placed fifth (53.23).
Diehl finished fourth (1:45.91) and Boyle fifth (1:46.30) in the 200 freestyle. Tanner Classon placed seventh in the 1-meter diving competition (332.90 points).
