UW-L Opens Season at Northfield Classic

Northfield, Minn. - The UW-La Crosse women's and men's swimming teams opened its 2007-08 season at the Northfield Quad Classic Saturday afternoon at St. Olaf College. No team scores were kept.
In the women's division, the Eagles won 10 individual races. Chelsea Hoff led the way for UW-L winning three titles. She captured the 100 (54.05) and 200 (1:59.78) freestyle as well as the 200 I.M. (2:16.11). Jennifer Bryson took the 1,650 freestyle (18:47.29) while Kristi Parker won the 100 backstroke (1:01.78) and Brianna Peyer the 100 breaststroke (1:09.85).
Other winners for UW-L included: Danielle Gray in the 100 buttefly (1:02.80), Anita Talavera in the 200 butterfly (2:20.06), Clare Hathaway in the 50 freestyle (25.49) and Maria Krisch in the 400 I.M. (4:56.43).
UW-L also won the 200 medley relay (1:51.31) with the team of Parker, Peyer, Hoff and Hathaway.
Kacie O'Brien recorded three second-place finishes for the Eagles Saturday. She was second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.27), 200 breaststroke (2:32.12) and 200 I.M. (2:16.88). Other second-place finishers included: Parker in the 200 backstroke (2:15.93); Peyer in the 50 freestyle (25.56); Kateyln Hartung in the 100 freestyle (55.53) and Bryson in the 400 I.M. (5:02.76). Hartung was also third in the 200 butterfly (2:21.69).
Third-place results included: Ellie Werner in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.43); Sarah Russart in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.73); Talavera in the 500 freestyle (5:29.77) and Jennifer Kolmos in the 100 butterfly (1:04.56).
In the men's results, UW-L won seven individual titles. Lance Scadden took two titles winning the 100 backstroke (2:01.75) and finishing in a tie for first in the 100 butterfly (54.64). Karl Richters took the 100 breaststroke (1:00.03) while Tony Wolff won the 200 butterfly (2:05.95); Matthew Diehl the 100 freestyle (49.27); Michael Hruska the 200 I.M. (2:07.89) and Anthony Schmidt the 400 I.M. (4:28.00).
Wolff was also second in the 100 freestyle (49.35) and third in the 100 butterfly (55.14) while Schmidt placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:04.96). Michael Beilman finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:10.28) with Cole Swanson third in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.86). Diehl was third in the 50 freestyle (21.83) and Eric Schleicher third in the 200 I.M. (2:10.04).
UW-L finished second in the 200 medley relay (1:37.83) with the team of Scadden, Swanson, Wolff and Diehl.
The Eagles also captured the mixed 200 freestyle relay Saturday (1:33.50).
UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 17 hosting the WIAC Relays at 9 a.m.
