UW-L Earns Victories over Lawrence and St. Norbert

Green Bay, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse men’s tennis team earned a pair of road victories Friday and Saturday to improve to 4-3 on the season. The Eagles defeated Lawrence University (Wis.) 5-4 Feb. 20 in Appleton and then picked up a 9-0 victory over St. Norbert College (Wis.) Feb. 21 at the Western Racquet Club in Green Bay. UW-L's match versus North Central College (Ill.) scheduled for Feb. 21 was cancelled.

In the win over Lawrence, Nick Piotrowski (No. 2), Nathan Fekete (No. 3), Steven Quiring (No. 4) and Doug Marmar (No. 5) earned wins in singles play. Piotrowksi defeated Dan Hertel (5-7, 6-0, 6-0), Fekete beat Kazunari Kishida (6-2, 6-2), Quiring beat Caleb Ray (7-6, 6-3) and Marmar defeated Kyle Nodarse (2-6, 6-4, 6-0).

Sam Talarczyk/John Hildebrandt (No. 3) won in doubles play against the Vikings as the duo defeated Travis Fondow/Roy Wimer (9-8).

Versus St. Norbert, Joey Van Lieshout (No. 1), Piotrowski (No. 2), Fekete (No. 3), Quiring (No. 4), Marmar (No. 5) and Paul Vickers (No. 6) all won in singles for UW-L. Van Lieshout defeated Jordan Bauer (2-6, 6-3, 10-7) while Piotrowski beat Eric Koppmann (6-1, 6-2). Fekete earned the victory at No. 3 singles over Derek Harrington (6-4, 6-4).

Quiring beat Nate Tackaberry (6-0, 6-1) while Marmar defeated Mike Hyrczyk (6-3, 6-1) and Vickers beat Ethan Kadow (6-4, 6-3).

The Eagles swept all three doubles matches. Van Lieshout/Piotrowski defeated Hyrczyk/Tackaberry at No. 1 (8-3) while Fekete/Quiring beat Bauer/Harrington at No. 2 (8-0). Talarczyk/Hildebrandt earned the win at No. 3 doubles over Koppmann/Matt Schmitz (8-4).

UW-L returns to action Sunday, March 8 versus Ripon College (Wis.) in Oshkosh at 4 p.m.
