Vincent Named Indoor National Track Scholar Athlete of the Year
For Immediate Release: Monday, July 6, 2009
New Orleans, La. – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse junior Dallas Vincent of Oakfield (Mayville) has been selected the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Indoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year.
A 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V College Division Men's Track & Field/Cross Country selection, Vincent is an accounting major with a 3.83 grade point average while competing for the Eagles' cross country and track & field squads. He placed 19th at the 2008 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Cross Country Championships, earning honorable mention all-conference honors. Vincent, a member of the 2008 United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, finished 37th at the NCAA III Midwest Region and 101st at the NCAA Division III Championships in 2008.
On the track, Vincent was ninth in the 1,500-meter run and also competed in the 5,000-meter run at this year's outdoor national championships. He earned a pair of All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA III Indoor Championships, finishing second in the 5,000-meter run and as a member of UW-L's second-place distance medley relay. Vincent was second in the 1,500-meter run at the 2009 WIAC Outdoor Championships and placed fourth in the mile run at this year's indoor league meet. He was also on the Eagles' second-place distance medley relay at the 2009 WIAC Indoor meet.
Vincent is one of seven UW-L student-athletes to be named to the 2009 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team. He is joined by senior Brad Peterson of Hartland (Arrowhead), junior Matt Gordy of Whitewater (H.S.), sophomores Jeremiah Burish of Cadott (H.S.), Connor Lonning of La Crosse (Aquinas) and Ryan Mendez of Black River Falls (H.S.) and freshman Paul Yerhot of Chaska, Minn. (H.S.).
The USTFCCCA honors Division III individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field season. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
