UW-L Third After First Day of WIAC Championships; Riley Wins Shot Put; Eagles Win Relay

Superior, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse men’s track & field team is in third-place after the first day of competition at the WIAC Indoor Championships being held at UW-Superior. The Eagles have 32.5 team points while UW-Whitewater is in first with 42 points and UW-Platteville second with 40.5.
UW-Oshkosh is fourth (27.5) followed by UW-Eau Claire (22.5), UW-Stevens Point (17), UW-Superior (7), UW-Stout (4) and UW-River Falls (2).
In Friday's action, UW-L's distance medley relay captured the conference title with a time of 10:20.53.
Individually, the Eagles' Bobby Riley claimed the shot put championship (55-6 1/2) while teammate Bill Warren was fourth (50-9 1/2).
Dan Thour finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run (15:00.41) for UW-L while Jeremiah Burish tied for seventh on the pole vault (14-5 1/4) and Clark Lundquist tied for 11th on the long jump (21-0 1/2).
Preliminary track events were also held Friday. Matt Gordy advanced to Saturday's 55-meter dash after running a 6.47. UW-L advanced five runners in the 200-meter dash, including Alex Rooker (22.53), David Kolbe (22.74), Cole Lambert (22.78), Gordy (22.85) and Jonathon Doble (22.88).
Five runners also advanced in the 400-meter dash, including Kolbe (49.58), Dylan Randolph (50.01), Doble (50.12), Lambert (50.22) and Rooker (50.37).
Jamar Jackson advanced to Saturday's 55-meter hurdles (7.83).
