UW-L Wins Seventh Straight WIAC Indoor Title

Superior, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse men’s track & field team captured its seventh straight WIAC Indoor Championship Saturday night at UW-Superior. It is the Eagles’ conference record 33rd title in school history.
UW-L finished with 137.5 team points while UW-Whitewater was second with 125.0 and UW-Oshkosh third with 104.5. UW-Platteville placed fourth (101.5), followed by UW-Stevens Point (100.0), UW-Eau Claire (68.5), UW-Stout (26.0), UW-River Falls (23.0) and UW-Superior (16.0). UW-L interim head coach Don Fritsch was named the WIAC Co-Coach of the Year.
Matt Gordy and David Stauder earned individual conference titles for UW-L Saturday as Gordy took the 55-meter dash (6.46) and Stauder the high jump (1.97 meters). Gordy set a facility record with his winning time.
The Eagles took four of the top-nine places in the 200-meter dash Saturday and five of the top-nine in the 400-meter dash. Alex Rooker finished third in the 200 (22.51) while David Kolbe was sixth (22.83), Jonathon Doble seventh (22.83), Gordy eighth (22.96) and Cole Lambert ninth (23.11). In the 400, Kolbe placed second (49.48), Doble third (49.77), Dylan Randolph fifth (50.14), Rooker seventh (50.54) and Lambert ninth (51.10).
Paul Zdroik finished second (4:10.89) and Kevin Oelstrom fifth (4:18.49) in the mile run Saturday while Dan Thour was fourth (8:42.66) and Oelstrom seventh (8:44.97) in the 3,000-meter run.
UW-L’s Jamar Jackson was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (7.84). The Eagles’ 4x400-meter relay (3:22.40) finished second Saturday while the 4x200-meter relay was fourth (1:31.22).
In other field event results, Jessie Dengsavang placed second in the triple jump (14.08 meters) while teammate Anthony Hasse was seventh (13.56). Clark Lundquist placed fifth in the high jump (1.91 meters) and Joel Nernberger was 11th in the heptathlon (3,858 points).
The Eagles’ Aaron Johnson finished seventh (15.88 meters) and Andrew Brueggen 11th (15.12) in the weight throw.
