UW-L Opens Season at UW-Stout Open

Menomonie, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's track & field team opened its 2008 season at the UW-Stout Open Saturday in Menomonie. No team scores were kept.

Eight different Eagles won individual events Saturday. On the track, Matt Gordy won the 55-meter dash (6.47), Davild Kolbe the 200-meter dash (22.70), Paul Zdroik the mile (4:12.46), Cory Hayden the 5,000-meter run (14:53.03) and Jamar Jackson the 55-meter hurdles (7.71).

UW-L also won the 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays. The 4x200 (1:30.29) consisted of Jonathon Doble, Kolbe, Cole Lambert and Alex Rooker while the 4x400 (3:23.82) was Michael Marchese, Ryan Mendez, Brad Peterson and Dylan Randolph.

In field events, Dave Stauder captured the high jump (6-6 1/4), Jessie Dengsavang the triple jump (44-8 1/4) and Bill Warren the shot put (49-4 1/2).

Other track results included: Gordy second (22.82) and Rooker third (22.82) in the 200-meter dash and Kevin Oelstrom second in the mile (4:15.98). Brian Shonat placed second (1:59.28) and Adam Kleinmaus third (2:00.19) in the 800-meter run while Chris Gilbert was third in the 3,000-meter run (8:55.52).

UW-L's Dan Thour placed second (15:03.41) and Paul Moran third (15:16.11) in the 5,000-meter run while Dayton Schmitt was third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.39). The Eagles' 4x400-meter relay of Thomas Bauer, Andrew Boldt, Kleinmaus and Dan Rendler was second (3:31.96).

Jeremiah Burish finished second in the pole vault (13-9) while Aaron Johnson was second in the shot put (46-3 1/4). Clark Lundquist placed third in the long jump (20-6 1/40) and Christophe Johnson was third in the triple jump (42-9 3/4).
