UW-L Completes Undefeated WIAC Dual Season

Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team completed an undefeated Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual season with a 44-5 victory at UW-Eau Claire Tuesday night. The Eagles improve to 21-2 overall and 6-0 in the WIAC. It marks the sixth time in the last eight seasons UW-L has been undefeated in conference duals. The Eagles are 46-2 in the WIAC since 2000-01.

UW-Eau Claire fell to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference with the loss Tuesday.

UW-L won nine of 10 matches Tuesday night. The Eagles' Brandon Music opened the dual with a win by fall (2:56) over Brandon Page at 125-pounds for a 6-0 UW-L lead. The Blugolds cut the lead to 6-5 at 133-pounds as Andy Miller earned a technical fall (17-0) over Pat Parrillo at 133.

The Eagles then won the final eight matches. Kevin Barber won by forfeit at 141 while Matt Mauseth defeated Andy Johnston by decision (9-2) at 149-pounds for a 15-5 lead. Jay Milz and Tim Palmer earned back-to-back wins by fall to give UW-L a 27-5 lead. Milz won by fall (2:49) at 157 over Jon Ames while Palmer defeated Seth Hendricks by fall (1:12) at 165. Palmer is currently ranked first in the country.

Jeff Erkel won by forfeit at 174-pounds for the Eagles while Josh Zabel won by technical fall (19-2) over Ted Sikowski at 184. Zabel is ranked third in NCAA Division III. The two wins made it 38-5.

UW-L's Tim Winker and Dan Laurent each earned wins by decision to finish the dual. Winker defeated Josh Holforty (7-3) at 197-pounds while Laurent defeated Nick Hoeft (8-2) at 285.

UW-L returns to action Sunday, February 24 at the WIAC Championships in Appleton, Wisconsin at 10 a.m.
