UW-L Wins Three of Four Matches at North/South Duals; Compete at Flash Flanagan Open

La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team won three of four matches at the North/South Duals Saturday at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. The Eagles defeated Wilkes University, Pa. (34-7), Cortland State University, N.Y. (28-18) and Messiah College, Pa. (39-6) while falling to Delaware Valley College, Pa. (24-13).

UW-L, fifth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III rankings, is now 13-3 on the season. Wilkes is ranked 13th in the country while Cortland is 14th, Messiah 29th and Delaware Valley third.

Cory Ferguson went 4-0 at 165-pounds in the duals with one win by fall. Andy Moore was 3-0 at 197 while Matt Mauseth (149), Dan Schulte (174) and Brenden Faust (197) all finished 1-0.

The Eagles' Alex Dahl (141), Josh Zabel (184) and Dan Laurent (285) each went 3-1 on the day. Dahl and Laurent recorded two of their three wins by fall while Zabel had one. UW-L's Pat Parrillo finished 2-1 at 133-pounds with both victories by fall while Mike Schmitz went 2-1 at 174-pounds.

Other results included Zeb Secrist (149-pounds) going 1-2; Gus Green (133) lost his only match while Johnny Brennan (125) and Ryan Farwell (157) both finished 1-3. Brennan's win was by fall.

UW-L also had wrestlers compete at the Flash Flanagan Open at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Bobby Dorn and Jake Gosch both placed second for the Eagles. Dorn went 2-1 at 149-pounds while Gosch finished 3-1 at 174.

Other results included Justin Garcia going 3-3 at 141 and Jeff Erkel 2-2 at 165. Kevin Barber (141) and Nolan Hammel (157) both went 1-2 Saturday with Barber earning his victory by fall. Justin Dixon (141) finished 0-2.

UW-L returns to action Saturday-Sunday, January 10-11 at the NCAA Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
