UW-L has Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped at UW-Eau Claire

Eau Claire , Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 60-53 loss at 25th-ranked UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon in Zorn Arena. The Eagles fall to 9-9 overall and 4-5 in the WIAC while the Blugolds improve to 15-3 overall and 9-0 in the conference. UW-Eau Claire is ranked 25th on D3hoops.com and in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top-25 Poll.
The Blugolds raced out to a 23-8 lead with 5:08 remaining in the first half before the Eagles came back to cut the halftime deficit to 27-18 on Mandy Stevens' jumper at the intermission horn.
UW-L came out and scored the first six points of the second half to cut the lead to 27-24 before UW-Eau Claire increased the lead back to 31-24 with 16:51 left. The Eagles then scored the next seven points to force a 31-31 tie with 14:36 remaining on Anna Halat's layup. The Blugolds went on a 9-2 run to lead 40-33 and later led 46-39 with 6:48 left.
The Eagles took their first lead since early in the first half as they went on an 8-0 run to lead 47-46 with 4:53 left on Lana Marjanovic's layup. Amanda Zenner came back for UW-Eau Claire to hit a pair of free throws with 4:01 left for a 48-47 lead and the Blugolds would never trail again as they finished the game on a 14-6 run. UW-Eau Claire hit all 10 of its free throw attempts in the final 4:01.
Mackenzie Hunter led UW-L with 19 points while Dana Churchill finished with 10 points and team-high nine rebounds. Lindsay Wahl and Halat both finished with seven points. UW-L shot 44.0% from the field, including 11.1% (one-of-nine) from three-point range. The Eagles were eight-of-13 (61.5%) at the free throw line.
Heidi Arciszewski led UW-Eau Claire with 16 points and nine rebounds. The Blugolds shot 40.0% from the field, including 27.3% (three-of-11) from three-point range. UW-Eau Claire was 17-of-28 (60.7%) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 30 hosting UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
