UW-L has Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped at UW-Whitewater

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 92-62 loss at second-ranked UW-Whitewater Wednesday night in Kachel Gymnasium. The Eagles fall to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC while the Warhawks improve to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference. UW-Whitewater is ranked second on D3hoops.com.
The Warhawks never trailed Wednesday night, racing out to a 9-2 lead. The Eagles then went on a 8-2 run to cut the lead to 11-10 with 13:52 left, but UW-Whitewater scored 17 of the next 23 points to lead 28-16. The Warhawks led 41-28 at halftime.
UW-Whitewater went on a 12-4 run to open the second half to lead 53-32 and UW-L could get no closer than 19 points the rest of the game.
Lindsay Wahl led UW-L with 22 points, finishing 10-of-13 from the field and two-of-four at the free throw line. She als ohad five rebounds. Dana Churchill and Mandy Stevens each scored eight points for the Eagles. Churchill also grabbed five rebounds.
UW-L shot 40.0% from the field and missed all six of its three-point attempts. The Eagles were 18-of-23 (78.3%) at the free throw line.
Lindsey Buechner led five UW-Whitewater players in double figures with 19 points. Kelsey Hendrickson added 16 points while Heidi Sonntag (13), Tiffany Morton (12) and Rachel Woolever (11) all scored in double figures.
UW-Whitewater shot 55.7% from the field, including 65.5% (19-of-29) in the second half. The Warhawks shot 46.7% (seven-of-15) from three-point range and 70.8% (17-of-24) at the line.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 12 at UW-Stout at 3 p.m.
