Eagles Drop WIAC Contest to UW-Eau Claire

La Crosse, Wis. - The UW-La Crosse women's basketball team dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC with a 77-61 loss to UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Blugolds improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the league with the victory.
UW-Eau Claire never trailed in the game, leading 8-4 with 16:37 remaining in the first half. The Blugolds went on a 12-2 run to lead 20-6 with 10:56 left before the Eagles came back to cut the lead to 23-13 with 6:42 remaining. UW-Eau Claire then ended the half on a 14-4 run to lead 37-17.
The Blugolds led by as many as 25 points in the second half at 53-28 with 12:37 remaining. UW-L could get no closer than 15 points the rest of the contest.
Lindsay Wahl led UW-L with a career-high 20 points, finishing five-of-eight from the field and 10-of-12 at the free throw line. She also had a team-high six rebounds. Dana Churchill added 12 points off the bench for the Eagles, finishing three-of-six from the field, including hitting both of her three-point attempts. Churchill was four-of-four at the line and had three rebounds.
UW-L shot 35.2% from the field, including 20.0% (three-of-15) from three-point range. The team was 20-of-22 (90.9%) at the line. The Eagles shot 20.8% (five-of-24) from the field in the first half, including missing all 11 of their three-point attempts.
Heather Witt led UW-Eau Claire with 17 points as four starters scored in double figures. Heidi Arciszewski totaled 13 points, Michelle Burns 12 and Amanda Zenner 10. Burns also had a team-high 11 rebounds. Brittanni Hakanson added 13 points off the bench.
The Blugolds shot 47.3% from the field, including 33.3% (three-of-nine) from three-point range. UW-Eau Claire was 22-of-28 (78.6%) at the free throw line.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, December 29 in Daytona Beach, Florida playing Bridgewater State (Mass.) at 9 a.m.
