UW-L Opens Season with Win at UW-Eau Claire Invite; LaFleur Wins All-Around

Eau Claire , Wis. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse gymnastics squad opened its 2008 season with a victory at the four-team UW-Eau Claire Invitational Friday night. The Eagles finished with 177.000 points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 170.700. UW-Eau Claire placed third (170.150) and Hamline, Minn. fourth (169.875).
Jackie LaFleur took the all-around title for UW-L with a score of 36.250. She placed second on the vault (9.525), third on the uneven parallel bars (8.875) and balance beam (8.725) and tied for fifth on the floor exercise (9.125).
The Eagles' Erin Sommer was second in the all-around (35.900) after placing second on the balance beam (9.000) and third on the vault (9.250). She was also seventh on the uneven parallel bars (8.700) and tied for eighth on the floor exercise (8.950).
Gabi Hooper captured two individual events Friday night as she won the vault (9.550) and tied for first on the floor exercise (9.300).
In other top-five results for UW-L, Schaelyn McFadden placed second on the uneven parallel bars (8.925) and fourth on the vault (9.025) while Mackenzie Howard finished fourth on the balance beam (8.625).
