Clark, Gilbertson and Weyenberg Named to All-WIAC Team

La Crosse, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior goalkeeper Amanda Clark of Minocqua (Lakeland Union) and senior midfielders Chelsea Gilbertson of Waunakee (H.S.) and Ramsey Weyenberg of Appleton (East) have been selected to the 2008 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team in a vote by the league coaches. It marks the second first team all-conference honor for Weyenberg while Clark and Gilbertson each picked up their first all-league selection.

Weyenberg started all 19 matches in 2008, leading the Eagles with six assists, 61 shots and 29 shots on goal. She finished second on the team with 14 points and was tied for second with four goals. Weyenberg tallied goals against UW-Superior, UW-River Falls, Northwestern College (Minn.) and Denison University (Ohio). Her goal at UW-River Falls was a match-winner for the Eagles in a 2-1 victory.

Tied for eighth in the WIAC in assists in 2008, Weyenberg finishes her career third in school history with 17 assists. Her six assists this year is tied for eighth in single-season school history. Weyenberg is tied for seventh at UW-L in career points (47) and tied for ninth in career goals (15).

She earned four letters at UW-L, starting 65 of 66 career matches for the Eagles.

Clark, who was also named to the 2008 WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team, started in goal for 14 matches for the Eagles this season. She finished with a 7-4-2 record and five shutouts while compiling a 1.29 goals against average. Clark, who missed four matches with an injury, recorded shutout wins over Simpson College, Iowa (1-0), Viterbo University, Wis. (1-0), UW-Superior (3-0) and UW-Platteville (1-0). Clark was named the WIAC Defensive Player of the Week September 14 after the shutouts victories over Viterbo and UW-Superior. She also had a shutout in the Eagles’ double overtime tie (0-0) with UW-Stout.

Clark is third in the WIAC this season in shutouts, goals against average and save percentage (.833) while ranking fourth in saves (85).

A three-year letter winner at UW-L, Clark played in 50 career matches in goal for the Eagles, including 48 starts. She compiled an overall record of 27-14-5 with 15 shutouts, which ranks third in school history. Clark ranks third in school history in minutes played in goal (4,403.30), fifth in goals against average (1.27) and fifth in career saves (288).

Gilbertson started all 19 matches this year, registering two goals and two assists for six points. She recorded her first career goal in the Eagles’ 2-1 victory at UW-River Falls September 20 and later added a goal in a 4-1 loss at UW-Whitewater October 11. Gilbertson had an assist in a 1-1 double overtime tie with the University of St. Thomas, Minn. September 14 and in a 2-1 victory at UW-Oshkosh October 25.

A four-year letter winner, Gilbertson played in 72 career matches at UW-L with 47 starts. She finished her career with two goals, seven assists and 11 points.

UW-L finished 9-8-2 overall this season, recording its sixth straight winning season under head coach Sara Burton. The Eagles have finished with a winning record in 11 of Burton’s 15 seasons as head coach. UW-L was 4-3-1 in the WIAC this year and advanced to the league tournament semifinals for the second consecutive season.
