Schetter Named Indoor and Outdoor National Field Scholar Athlete of the Year; UW-L Earns Team Honor

New Orleans, La. – University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior Caitlin Schetter of Kiel (H.S.) has been selected the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Indoor and Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. Schetter, who was named to the 2008 and 2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Track & Field/Cross Country College Division Second Team, was a communication studies major and sociology minor with a 3.75 grade point average.

She was selected the 2009 USTFCCCA National Indoor Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season after winning her second straight long jump title, placing second in the triple jump and seventh in the 55-meter dash. She is a three-time honoree as the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Field Athlete of the Year.

Earning three NCAA All-America accolades at the 2009 outdoor championships, Schetter became the first student-athlete in school history to win the outdoor long jump national title. She also placed sixth in the triple jump and was a member of UW-L's fifth-place 4x100-meter relay.

Schetter finished her career with 13 All-America honors, including capturing the national indoor long jump crown in 2008 and 2009. She was seventh in the indoor long jump in 2007 and earned three indoor All-America honors in the triple jump, including second in 2009.

A two-time WIAC Indoor Field Performer of the Meet, Schetter won seven league titles in her career and holds three school records. She was named the 2009 WIAC Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete and is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Schetter has also been recognized on UW-L’s Dean’s List six semesters and was selected to the 2008 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

Schetter is one of 12 UW-L student-athletes to be named to the 2009 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team. She is joined by seniors Alecia Ellingstad of Elk Mound (H.S.), Katie Fondow of Green Bay (West), Danica Schaefer of Waukesha (West) and Jamie Scott of Rosholt (H.S.) along with juniors Christy Bohl of Chippewa Falls (McDonell), Katlin Genthe of Menomonie Falls (H.S.) and Ashton May of Adams, Minn. (Southland). Sophomores Kailey Charlton of Brookfield (East), Lauren Seidl of Green Bay (Preble) and Caitlin Wippermann of Lake Geneva (H.S.) and freshman Laurel Beck of Rochester, Minn. (Marshall) also earned All-Academic honors.

UW-L also earned a USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Award with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.37.

The USTFCCCA honors Division III individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field season. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
