UW-L Ties for Fourth at NCAA Championships; 1,600 Relay Places Fourth

Ada, Ohio – The UW-La Crosse women’s track & field team tied for fourth-place Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships at Ohio Northern University. The Eagles finished with 21 team points. Illinois Wesleyan took the team title with 30 points while Wartburg was second with 27 and Washington Univeristy (Mo.) third with 23. Keene State tied for fourth with UW-L.

It is UW-L's second straight season of finishing fourth at the indoor championships.

The Eagles' 4x400-meter relay placed fourth Saturday (3:54.40). The relay of Katie Steingraeber, Caitlin Perra, Abby Lien and Danica Schaefer finished in 3:54.40. Steingraeber, Perra and Schaefer were also members of UW-L's fifth-place 4x400-meter relay at the 2007 national indoor championships.

In other competition Saturday, Jamie Scott finished ninth (11-6 1/4) in the pole vault for UW-L while Alecia Ellingstad tied for 11th (11-0 1/4).

UW-L's Katie Fondow and Caitlin Schetter competed in the triple jump Saturday, but failed to advance to the finals. Fondow went 35-6 1/2 in the prelims while Schetter recorded a mark of 34-1 1/2. Both athletes earned NCAA III All-America honors in the long jump Friday as Schetter captured the national title (19-2 3/4) and Fondow placed third (18-4 1/2).
