UW-L Wins Esten Challenge; Eagles Win Four Individual Events

La Crosse, Wis. – The UW-La Crosse women’s track & field team captured the Phil Esten Challenge Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Eagles finished 198.5 team points. UW-Eau Claire was second (180.75) followed by Winona State (96.0), UW-Stout (51.0) and UW-River Falls (47.0) to round out the top-five.

UW-Stevens Point placed sixth (46.75) followed by Wartburg (41.0) and St. Mary's (15.0).

The meet was held with a steady rain throughout the day and night.

UW-L won three individual events Friday. On the track, Katie Steingraeber finished first in the 100-meter dash (12.72) while Abby Lien took the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.05). Lien provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Outdoor Championships with her performance. The Eagles’ also won the 4x100-meter relay (48.93).

In field events, Krista Kopetsky captured the long jump (17-0 ¾).

Other top-finishers on the track for UW-L included: Lien was second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.65) while Cassie Grosse was second (12.77) and Kailey Charlton third (12.78) in the 100-meter dash. The Eagles’ Jessica Olson was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:52.49) and Caitlin Perra third in the 200-meter dash (26.09).

In the field events, Jenna Starck and Kayla Johnson tied for second in the high jump (4-9 ¾) while Amanda Bly was second in the javelin throw (103-4). Ashton May finished second (36-10 ¼) and Abby Schulz third (35-8) in the triple jump.

Alecia Ellingstad was second in the pole vault (11-5 ¾) while Kaitlin Genthe, Tiffany Ness, Chris Clausen and Jamie Scott tied for third in the vault (10-11 ¾).

In the conclusion of the heptathlon Saturday, AnnMarie Glejf took first with 4,022 points. Jamie Scott was second with 3,645.
