UW-L Drops Three of Four Matches at UW-Whitewater Invite

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team dropped three of four matches at the UW-Whitewater Invitational this weekend. The Eagles opened with a 3-0 (15-25, 20-25, 21-25) loss to Heidelberg University (Ohio) Friday before coming back to earn a 3-2 (13-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-8) victory over Illinois Wesleyan University. UW-L then fell 3-0 (22-25, 13-25, 19-25) to Elmhurst College (Ill.) and 3-0 (15-25, 19-25, 10-25) to Carthage College (Wis.) Saturday. Carthage is ranked seventh in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll.

UW-L is now 4-12 on the season.

Melany Vanden Langenberg led the Eagles with eight kills in their loss to Heidelberg. Katie Gunderson finished with seven and Brianne Stankus six as UW-L hit .129 as a team. Liz Schlobohm recorded 25 assists.

Stankus had a team-high 16 digs while Melannie Tate finished with 12 and Jennifer Stutz eight.

In the win over Illinois Wesleyan, Stankus had a team-high 10 kills while Gunderson finished with eight. UW-L hit .188 as a team. Schlobohm had 33 assists while Tate led the Eagles with 23 digs. Stankus recorded a double-double with 13 digs and Kelsey Witt added 10 digs.

UW-L hit .117 in its loss to Elmhurst as Vanden Langenberg had eight kills and Schlobohm 17 assists. Tate had 17 digs. The Eagles hit .176 against Carthage with Stankus finishing with eight kills. Schlobohm had 23 assists and Tate 21 digs.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
