Sonia Nazario
Common Reading Lecture

The
author of Enrique’s Journey, UW-La
Crosse’s Common Reading Book, Sonia Nazario has
written about social issues for the last two
decades. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Nazario
grew up in both Kansas and Argentina before
permanently taking residence in the United
States. After graduating from William’s College
she earned a master’s degree in Latin American
Studies from UC Berkley, was the youngest person
to ever be hired by the Wall Street Journal, and
has written for the LA Times. Enrique’s
Journey earned her a Pulitzer Prize for
Feature Writing in 2003, the George Polk Award
for International Reporting, the Grand Prize of
the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, and the
National Association of Hispanic Journalists
Guillermo Martinez-Marquez Award for Overall
Excellence.
