Process for responding to Hate Incidents

  1. Incident occurs and victim/witness submits Hate Incident Form to Office of Student Life.  Incident will be entered into the database.
  2. If victim wishes to be contacted, staff member from Office of Student Life will phone or e-mail victim by the end of the next business day.  Depending on wishes of the victim, next step(s) will be determined by Office of Student Life. *  Victim will be offered a Hate Response Advocate. **
  3. Key stakeholders will be contacted to assist with the campus response to the hate incident.
  4. With victim’s permission, the campus community will be notified of incident.
  5. Campus Climate Coordinator will compile and report data regarding hate incidents.  Report will be submitted regarding recommendations for prevention and anticipation of future hate incidents.
    Hate Response Team will support victims, oversee process, and assist Campus Climate Coordinator with programming.

* If a faculty or staff member is involved, the Office of Affirmative Action and Diversity will be contacted.
** If victim does not wish to be contacted, no further action will be taken. Confidential records will be stored.
