CWC Approved Policies (4.1a)

The following document is the result of a charge from the Joint IT Committee on three specific areas:
-
revisit the current Campus Web Committee (CWC) policies and restructure as appropriate
-
recommend a revised committee membership
-
provide recommendations for web accessibility
The Campus Web Committee reviewed each of these issues and has approved the following
recommendations.
Recommendation #1
Adopt the following reformulated policies and implementation strategies.Policies

Develop policies and guidelines for faculty, staff, and students on the appropriate use of the campus web.

Suggest procedures to deal with illegal copyright violations, or web sites which attempt to utilize the current campus web server in "for profit" activities.

Suggest procedures to deal with inappropriate content, profane or obscene web page material, which resides on the campus web server.

Develop guidelines for universal web accessibility.
-
Recommend protocols, policies, and procedures for offering campus web services.

Recommend protocols and policies to improve or maintain current and future campus web services and functionality
-
Provide guidelines for offering campus web sites and services that are used for on-line teaching and education.

Develop procedures for the web posting authorization process.
Implementation
-
Design, upgrade, and maintain the integrity and consistency of levels I and II of the campus web pages.

Develop and establish timelines for changes and/or alterations to level I and II web pages.

Provide official statements to the campus and local community regarding campus web news, changes, and general information.

Develop a series of templates of appropriate web pages for campus use.

Conduct formative evaluations of the campus web site to ensure its integrity. Make recommendations and/or modifications to improve, correct or enhance web sites.

Provide the campus with examples of effective web pages, graphic/image resources and web page design, suggest changes to campus sites which could benefit from improved design, functionality, load time, and consistency of look.
Recommendation #2
Membership
Membership for the CWC would include the representation listed in this document. Areas without specific names can recommend individuals to represent their areas. The intent of this makeup is to provide a wide and diverse platform of discussion. Although a large group, the participants historically have been very active in attending and participating in meetings. The membership was chosen by applying the following criteria:
- significant involvement with web technologies and/or development
- significant use of the web for teaching, research or conducting business and communication
- past involvement with the CWC

Recommendation #3
Web Accessibility
The CWC will "adopt and subscribe minimally" to the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) and will also endorse and adhere to its guidelines. In addition, the CWC will provide campus guidance and recommendations to "assure that web materials are accessible to all consumers." The CWC will articulate policies and guidelines and distribute them to the campus community.
