CAREER PLANNING TIMETABLE

Freshman Year 

  • Attend orientation meetings
  • Meet with your faculty advisor to discuss academic and career goals
  • Identify your personal interests, skills, and values through self-assessment 
  • Taking various personality, interest, and self-assessment tests 
  • Use "DISCOVER", a computer guidance program in the Academic Advising Center
  • Explore majors related to your interests through the Academic Advising Center
  • Make an appointment with an advisor in the Academic Advising Center or a counselor in the Counseling and Testing Center
  • Enroll in a variety of classes in several disciplines to explore career options
  • Visit the Involvement Center for community involvement opportunities and information on campus clubs and organizations

Sophomore Year

  • Review test and self-assessment results of your interests, skills, and values
  • Select an academic major consistent with your self-appraisal
  • Meet with your faculty advisor for class selection and to prepare a tentative degree plan
  • Consider double majors, minors, emphases or concentrations for versatility and to broaden your skills
  • Discuss the job market and employment trends with a Career Services staff member
  • Attend Career Fairs to learn about internship and job possibilities for the future
  • Explore professional internships through Career Services
  • Consider international internships and/or studying abroad opportunities (Click here for the Office of International Education)
  • Attend an Internship Information Session by Career Services.
  • Visit the Involvement Center for community involvement opportunities

Junior Year

  • Review a degree plan with your faculty advisor
  • Register with Career Services
  • Plan your internship experiences
  • Begin developing a resume/portfolio
  • Research specific job descriptions in related career fields
  • Explore post-graduation options, including graduate school
  • Consult with your faculty about graduate school options and processes
  • Initiate application process for grad school
  • Register for post-graduate/professional examinations
  • Utilize Career Services and the Academic Advising Center's DISCOVER program for grad school info
  • Attend Career Services workshops on resume writing and interviewing techniques
  • Establish professional contacts through faculty, Career Services and organizations in your field
  • Attend the Career Fairs
  • Consider study abroad opportunities

Senior Year

  • Become familiar with Career Services website
  • Prepare a comprehensive inventory of your skills and abilities
  • Update and finalize your resume/portfolio
  • Attend the Career Fairs
  • Request a mock interview with a Career Services professional
  • Attend Career Services workshops on resume writing and interviewing techniques
  • Complete the application process for graduate school/professional study
  • Take necessary post-graduate/professional examinations
  • Research companies and organizations in your career field
  • Utilize Career Services for on-campus interviewing opportunities
  • Meet with a Career Services staff member for help with job search strategies
  • Apply for job opportunities through Eagle Opportunities vacancy listings in Career Services
