Sea Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boating

Students will learn fundamental knowledge and skills in teaching outdoor pursuits as applied to sea kayaking. The course will emphasize trip planning, rescue, skill development and risk management. Participants will sea kayak to an round Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands and camp in the island state parks (Oak or Sand Island). Trips to sea caves, sandy beaches and a lighthouse are planned. No prior experience is necessary but students must be comfortable in water. Kayaks, PFDs, camping gear and food will be provided. Participants must provide personal gear including a sleeping bag.

Tuition: 3 graduate credits, plus $30 out of area fee
Additional cost: $240 for kayaking equipment and food, payable to instructor first day of class
Minimum enrollment: 8
Maximum enrollment: 15
Registration Deadline: July 1, 2013
 (if minimum enrollment is not reached course will be cancelled)

The tuition plateau does not apply to students enrolling in undergraduate or graduate credit courses through the  Office of Continuing Education and Extension.
