What do elders need to have a good life?

Explore the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes associated with aging. The diversity of aging experiences is considered as we investigate how elders meet their physical, spiritual, emotional and belonging needs. We will pay special attention to the differences between normal, typical aging and pathological, disease-related conditions related to aging. The growing concerns of depression, suicide, and other mental health issues are also examined.

Course Objectives:

  • Provide participants with research-based findings on the normal psychological processes of aging and the pathological processes.
  • Increase participants’ empathy and understanding of aging and elders in diverse life circumstances.
  • Encourage participants to apply information in personal, professional and public policy contexts.

Instructors:

  • Sara Sullivan, Ph.D., UW-L Department of Psychology, creates responsive and engaged learning experiences in the classroom and community settings.
  • Mary Faherty, M.S. is a retired social worker and administrator who worked to ensure quality person-centered care for elders and people with disabilities. She serves as a consultant and educator in the field of long term care. She also enjoys golf, storytelling, grandparenting, and wintering in Florida.

*Discounts on registrations are available for members of the Coulee Region LTC Workforce Coalition, senior citizens, and students.
