Programs offer special learning opportunities for retirees
Introducing
Beth Theede and Karen DeSchepper
Beth Theede joined the UW-L Continuing Education and Extension team on June 1, 2011 as an Outreach Specialist working primarily with youth programming, and she is also the new liaison for Learning in Retirement. Theede grew up in Decorah, Iowa, received her bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation from UW-L, went on to study the field of Community Education at both UW-River Falls and Minnesota State-Moorhead. She had served as the Director of Community Education for the Rushford-Peterson School District for the past five years. She currently resides in Rushford, Minn. with her husband and three small children. Theede is very excited to meet and work with the members of the Learning in Retirement!
Karen DeSchepper (formerly Langaard) has been with Continuing Education and Extension since February 2004. Her primary program areas have been pre-college, health/human services and the Gerontology Certificate. The Gerontology Certificate program partners to offer the Vital Aging Conference which attracts many LIR members. DeSchepper is looking forward to her new role with the LIR program! She enjoys both the variety and the interactions with members of the groups. DeSchepper has been a primary “face of CEE” as her desk is located in the department’s front office. DeSchepper is married, has two daughters (21 and 18) and a “bonus” son (14), and enjoys time with her family (including pets)!
