Programming - July 2009
- The 18th annual Young Scholars program, July 13-17, offers more than 95 students hands‐on experiences primarily in the arts and sciences through inquiry, creativity and problem solving. Eleven UW‐L faculty and academic staff will teach classes for the program.
Programming - June 2009
- An additional CEE youth program taking place on campus this month is Girls in Science, attracting 80 upper elementary and middle school youth, June 27-28.
- CEE’s summer youth programs kick off with Environmental Explorers, June 16-17, Harmony Explosion Camp, June 18-21 and the USA Cycling Camp, June 21-26.
- In cooperation with Chileda, the Autism Spectrum Disorders Certificate program begins this summer for 23 participants. This certificate is for health and human service professionals, educators, paraprofessionals, parents, and persons working directly with an individual with an autism spectrum disorder.
Programming - May 2009
- Trauma and Recovery, a two-day conference, features sessions exploring traumas related to sexual violence, domestic violence, combat and other life changing experiences. The program is held at the Radisson Hotel, May 8-9 and is open to the general public. To register or for more information call 785-6508.
Programming - April 2009
- Designed for trip leaders, camp counselors and outdoor enthusiasts, the Wilderness First Aid Course will be held April 24-26 on campus. This 16-hour American Red Cross emergency response training addresses primary care when help is delayed. To register or for more information please contact Continuing Education, 785-6500.
- The 24th Wisconsin Health Education Network annual meeting takes place April 23 in Middleton. Developed and led by Professor Gary Gilmore, Health Education and Health Promotion, the meeting will draw more than 70 health practitioners to address the need for partnership development of health education and promotion at local and statewide levels.
- The Chicago Art Trip will include the Broadway musical “Mary Poppins” and visit the Chicago Art Institute to view the Edvard Munch: Influence, Anxiety, and Myth exhibit and photography of Yousuf Karsh’s portraits, April 18-19. For more information or to register, contact Continuing

- Drugs and Aging, a workshop designed for health and human service professionals and other interested Individuals is offered April 7, 14 and 21 in the Health Science Center. The workshop is offered in partnership with the Psychology Department.

- A Gerontology workshop, Psychology of Aging is offered March 28 and April 4 on campus. The program is offered in partnership with the Psychology Department and is open to all. To register or for more information, call 785.6508.
- Marketing Basics for Artists, March 25, 5:30‐8:30 p.m., will help artists and crafters competitively price, present and sell their artwork, analyze the competition and design effective promotional materials. For more information call 785.6506.
- STEM Saturdays: Science, Technology. Engineering and Math (STEM), designed to provide youth with opportunities to advance their interests and abilities in science and technology, continues March 21 with a session titled, Color, Candy and Cabbage.
- A Study Tour to Canada offers opportunities to explore the Canadian health care, health education and health promotion systems. The overall goal is to foster more health-related insights and linkages between the United States and Canada. The tour co-directors are Gary Gilmore, health education/health promotion and Lawrence Green, University of California-San Francisco. The tour runs March 12-20, 2009.
- More than 200 school social workers, guidance counselors, nurses, principals and psychologists from around the state will attend the Wisconsin School Psychologists Convention, March in Stevens Point. The program is offered in partnership with assistant professor, Rob Dixon, Wisconsin School Psychologists Association and Continuing Education.

- STEM Saturdays: Science, Technology. Engineering and Math (STEM), designed to provide youth with opportunities to advance their interests and abilities in science and technology, continues Feb. 21 with a session titled, Celebrate Engineering!
- High school students explore careers in fitness/athletic training, sports media, marketing and organized sports management while attending Careers in Sport workshop, Feb. 18.
- The First Steps to Starting Your Art Business, Feb. 18, will review the basics of starting your art business and identifying next steps which include government regulations and basic recordkeeping.
- Needle Felting, a Continuing Education in the Arts workshop that takes raw dyed wool to create paintings and sculptures, begins Feb. 17.
- Honoring a Life, a four-session workshop beginning Feb. 16, takes participants through the process of creating a bookstore quality book that honors a loved one or tells a family story.
- ACT Prep Course, a precollege program designed to raise student test scores by enhancing test taking skills and strengthening their academic preparation will meet six Saturdays, Feb. 14-March 21 on the UW-L campus. To register, please call 785.6500.
- Dr. Delores Heiden will offer a one credit online course for teachers attending a Wisconsin State Reading Association Convention in Madison. The course will assist professional educators in their use of language to help children become strategic thinkers and independent, active literacy learners.
- The Adolescent Health Symposium will be offered Feb. 5-6 in Neenah. The annual event is intended for teachers, counselors, health educators and health and human professionals.
Programming - January 2009
- Three new ME‐PD Learning Community sites have been established this semester in Manitowoc, Sun Prairie and West Allis enrolling 67 new students to date.
- Immerse yourself in your craft this spring or summer by participating in one of many online arts and humanities classes. In association with JER Group Inc., online course topics include everything from creative fiction and poems to publishing and digital photography. - Join us Jan. 16, from 4-9 p.m. at Port O’Call, Cartwright Center, for an evening of life stories told through film. Aging and Film: (MORE) Stories from the 3rd Age, will feature films that illuminate our aging journeys with poignancy, power and delight. The program cost is $25 and the general public is welcome.
