Gifted students often enter our classrooms already knowing much of what we are going to teach! Teachers have the daunting task of engaging and challenging these exceptional students. This workshop provides an overview of giftedness and strategies that teachers can use tomorrow such as Extension Menus, Curriculum Compacting and Most Difficult First, Leveled Text, and Tiered Assignments, as well as ideas for special projects that will further develop these students’ potential. Join Shirley Paulson for an information filled morning focused on meeting the needs of gifted students.
Afternoon session: 12:30–2:30 p.m.
In the afternoon break into grade level groupings with a facilitator to discuss practical applications of the morning’s presentation to your specific classroom. Leave with ideas and activities you can use immediately. Session groups include: K-2; 3-5; 6-8; 9-12 and
K-12 Specialists (fine arts, humanities, technology, etc.)
Participants are encouraged to bring:
- Curriculum materials to help you develop practical lesson plans
- A special concern or interest from your school setting
