Summer Blended Learning Institute 2014

8:30 am-4 pm, plus additional
hours as arranged
UW-L Campus, La Crosse, Wis.
The Blended Learning Institute will provide an overview of the issues, skills and resources as we move to teaching and learning through electronic blended learning strategies and tools. Credit course participants will:
- Create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning and self-motivation through blended learning tools including iPads, QR codes, social media tools, apps, eBooks, Google productivity tools, etc.
- Use effective communication techniques, media and technology to foster active inquiry, collaboration and supportive interaction in the classroom.
- Use instructional technology to enhance student learning.
- Explore instructional strategies and best practices for implementing a flipped approach to classroom teaching for any student population and various curricular areas.
- Apply knowledge learned to classroom management, assessment, problem-solving and collaboration.
- Reflect on teaching and evaluate the effects of choices and actions on students, parents and others
- Participants must attend all day Blended
Learning Institute on August 20, 2014 (7.5 hours
toward graduate credit)
- Attend Welcome and Keynote Speaker 8:30–10:15 AM
- Attend three (3) workshops from the 20 scheduled choices-10:30-11:45 AM, 1:15–2:30 PM, and 2:45–4 PM.
- Participants will apply learning to
classroom teaching and provide written
documentation/reflection of three (3) lessons
which might include apps or games, iPads, social
media tools, QR Codes, online collaboration or
other activities – anything that provides an
example of blended learning in the classroom. (6
hours toward graduate credit – At least one hour
preparation and one hour to share lesson and
reflect per lesson)
DUE DATE: November 21, 2014 (These will be submitted to the online collaborative tool being designed as this outline is prepared.)

- Participants will comment, agree, disagree, reflect on the video using the collaborative tool for discussion that is being designed as this outline is prepared.
- Reflect on: parent/community reactions to blended learning
- Reflect on: amount of time, commitment, background knowledge needed for teacher to use/create blended learning
- DUE DATE: October 24, 2014 (Approximately 1.5 hours toward graduate credit)
Instructional Methods: Lecture, online tools, presentations to small and large group, individual work time, discussion, video presentation, online collaboration
Sessions offered in full and half-day segments. Participants select sessions to fill the entire 2 days as indicated by personal growth needed.
Registration and payment for credit course separate from and in addition to registration for workshop.

The tuition plateau does not apply to students enrolling in undergraduate or graduate credit courses through the Office of Continuing Education and Extension.
