THE PRESIDENT’S PIGEONHOLE
In September several of us from the LIR Board traveled to Madison to attend the State LIR Conference which was sponsored by PLATO, the Madison LIR group. As a result of attending this conference and six previous
LIR state conferences, I have come to believe that our LIR organization functions at a higher level than most of the other LIR’s around the state. It may sound as if I am bragging and that this may be construed
as unbecoming the president of our LIR. However, the truth is that in addition to the outstanding committees, curriculum and promotion; the Office of Continuing Education is the glue that holds our group together.
Jan Olson is the non-credit program coordinator in this office who efficiently and congenially provides this
glue by her outstanding management, coordination, and exceptional customer service skills. Granted, LIR pays the university for these services out of our membership fees; however, can you imagine the work and chaos that would occur without these support services. We would be in the same predicament as other LIR groups that need to look for their own rooms for holding classes and other activities, deal with reservations,
and all the other jobs that none of us would like to volunteer to do.
In closing, three cheers for the Office of Continuing Education and three great big cheers for Jan Olson!
The LIR board wants your input. We need your suggestions for our operations involving curriculum, membership, promoting the organization and policy decisions. To facilitate your input you may email me at: Altman3131@aol.com or phone me at 608.788.0424. You may be assured that your comments will always be presented and reviewed by the Board at our regular board meetings. The continued success of our organization depends upon all of us contributing ideas, suggestions and opinions about what LIR is doing, should be doing or should not be doing.
