Cultural Tours for Educators
Making It Home is cultural tour for K-12 educators that examines the resources and content for teaching that exist all around us—in the local environment and landscapes, family stories, artistic expressions, community history and contemporary social issues. Explore two WI regions (Ashland-Chequamegon Bay and Milwaukee) on a bus tour with scholars, content specialists, and other K-12 teachers through on-site guided visits, interactions with local residents, and community based presentations. Experience directly how residents relate to the land and water around them. You will learn content and hands-on training in ways to study local culture, and methods to incorporate local culture studies into existing curricula.
Making It Home is a special project of Wisconsin Teachers of Local Culture, sponsored by the Wisconsin Humanities Council, the Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures and the Wisconsin Arts Board. For more information, go to http://csumc.wisc.edu/wtlc/tour2008/index.htm.
