Interdisciplinary Team Involvement with the Pine Ridge Reservation located in Southwestern South Dakota
An interdisciplinary approach (education, public health, medical) to family well-being in the educational setting
Tentatively Planned for in 2012.
Potential educational activities:
- Preliminary cultural orientation: Oglala Sioux Tribe (Lakota Sioux)
- Daily interaction with Oglala Sioux Tribal representatives and other community leaders and citizens of Pine Ridge, S.D.
- Small group and large group discussions with Wisconsin and South Dakota Interdisciplinary team
- Field trips
- Cultural events
- Celebration dinner
Wacantognaka, the Lakota word for generosity, means to contribute to the well-being of one’s people and all life by sharing and giving freely.
Date/Location: July 18-23, 2010; Pine Ridge, South Dakota (Southwestern part of the State)
Travel: Round Trip via chartered bus; La Crosse-Pine Ridge-La Crosse
Format: To have 10 education professionals working with up to 10 public health professionals and undergraduate and graduate community health/public health candidates
Fee: $695 includes transportation, meals, lodging and activities listed above
Wisconsin Teaching Standards: #1, #9 and #10
Recognition:
- CEUs or CECHs for CHES-certified participants (included with fee)
- One academic credit* option available ($180 additional tuition fee)
*A $15 Registration Fee/semester and a $2/credit D2L (Desire2Learn) Fee is assessed to all undergraduate and graduate students each semester.
Registration for the event encouraged by Friday, May 28th. Deposit of $200 required at the time of registration. Remainder of fee to be paid by Wednesday, June 30th. At least one pre-trip orientation session to be set up in June.
