Yellowstone: Policies and Controversies

This educational tour will challenge you to think about the costs and benefits of national parks for citizens at large and for those living in and near Yellowstone.
Join us for a five-day exploration of national park policies and controversies in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
- View animals and the major geothermal features of the park
- Explore policy issues facing the park such as wolf reintroduction, wildlife management, disease control and natural resource use.
- Meet and interview major stakeholders including community members, ranchers, park officials, and members of advocacy organizations.

- Jo Arney, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in Political Science and Public Administration. Her research interests are in environmental policy and brucellosis control in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

March 19
- Introduction to the park
- Tour of Mammoth Springs, Yellowstone Lake, Canyon Village
- Mobile classroom - Introduction to small controversies including non-native species and main controversies including wolves and bison
March 20
Day Program:
- Wolf watching (5 a.m.)
- Tour of Hayden Valley
- Mobile classroom
- Afternoon Break
Evening Program:
- Meet with local film maker or bear advocate
March 21
Day Program:
- Stakeholder Day
- Meet with member of advocacy organization on site
- Meet with rancher affected by brucellosis on site
- Meet with rancher affected by wolves on site
Evening Program:
- Meet with park biologists about bison and wolves
- Recap of day’s activities
March 22
Day Program:
- Yellowstone’s Thermal Features
- Tour of geyser basin
Evening Program:
- Final dinner and discussion of policy solutions
COST:
- $715 Fees include 6 days/5 nights lodging and daily programs March 18-23 at the beautiful Yellowstone Overlook Campus (shared sleeping accommodations), all programming and educational activities, entrance to the park, transportation in the park and a Yellowstone Association Field guide. Fees do not include transportation to and from the park and/or meals. A full kitchen facility is provided at the Overlook Field Campus and a grocery store is within two miles.

Cancellation Policy: Full refund less $179 processing fee before Feb. 4, 2013. No refunds on or after Feb. 4, 2013.
