Make an Appointment:
Call or stop in to make an appointment.
At the first counseling appointment the receptionist will ask
the student to complete a personal information sheet which
will help the counselor understand the student's concerns.
The student and counselor will then discuss the student's
situation and determine what counseling service will be most
helpful. The first session takes approximately 30 to 45
minutes.

Individual
Counseling
Individual counseling provides an opportunity to talk with a
personal counselor about anything you wish and to get help in
resolving conflicts, solving problems, choosing a major, career
testing, handling crisis situations, making decisions, and
developing better coping skills.
Group Counseling
Each semester, the Counseling Center, based on students'
interests and needs, schedules a variety of groups and workshops
designed to help students learn new interpersonal skills, coping
skills, and
discuss personal concerns in a safe and supportive atmosphere.
Check with the Counseling Center for information about current
group offerings.
National
Testing
National testing programs are administered for UWL students
and other persons in the local community. These tests
include the ACT, Wisconsin Regional Placement Test, CLEP
Test, Graduate Record Exam, PPST, Medical College Admission
Test, and the Miller Analogies Test.

Academic
Skills
The Counseling & Testing Center offers workshops and
individual sessions on academic skills such as: note taking,
text book study, test preparation, managing test anxiety,
test taking skills, vocabulary, and speed
reading.
Alcohol
Education
Students or staff who are concerned about their own or a
friend’s alcohol or drug use may receive consultation,
assessments, short term counseling, or referrals to a number of
community resources to help address these concerns.
Awake and Alive/Get Smart is an ongoing educational group
for students who want to increase their knowledge and awareness
of alcohol and safe driving issues. The Counseling Center
receptionist can schedule these appointments.
