    Education teacher candidates are expected to document knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary for teacher certification relative to the Wisconsin Teacher Educator Standards (WTES). The Portfolio is one of multiple measurement tools used within the Department's assessment system to evaluate candidate progress.

    All candidates completing an undergraduate certification must pass two (2) portfolio benchmarks, including Pre-student Teaching and Student Teaching benchmarks.  Portfolio benchmarks are incorporated within their major coursework.   

    Portfolio Standards:  Each portfolio benchmark is designed to address the ten (10) Wisconsin Teacher Education Standards (WTES).  These standards are intended for use through Spring 2015.

    Beginning Fall 2014

    The Department will enter a process of transitioning to an alternate portfolio process that will use the New Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) Model Core Teaching Standards. These standards have been approved by DPI for teacher education program use and contain an updated list of standards.

    Portfolio Evaluation:

    The portfolio is evaluated using a rubric for each of the benchmarks.  Students must pass each benchmark by receiving "proficient" ratings for each standard.

    Portfolio Expectations:

    This document outlines portfolio expectations for teacher candidates in the Department of Educational Studies Programs (ECE/Elem-ML/EA-A/SPE Add-on).

    Pre-Student Teaching Portfolio

    During the Field II semester (EDS 445/450, SPE 446/447 add-on), candidates must complete the Pre-Student Teaching Portfolio. To meet the requirements of this benchmark you will need to use the D2L presentation template supplied within the D2L site to upload the narrative statement and associated artifacts.  This presentation should be published and turned in through the dropbox feature within D2L. Failure to complete this portfolio benchmark will stop you from proceeding to student teaching!

    Post-Student Teaching Portfolio

    During the Student Teaching semester (EDS 492, SPE 430/786), candidates must complete the Pre-Student Teaching Portfolio. To meet the requirements of this benchmark you will need to use the D2L presentation template supplied within the D2L site to upload the narrative statement and associated artifacts.  This presentation should be published and turned in through the dropbox feature within D2L.  Failure to complete this portfolio benchmark will stop you from receiving your teaching license!

    General Directions:

    Candidates must create a narrative statement/document that will explain how each of the ten Wisconsin Teacher Educator Standards (WTES) is met.  This narrative statement should have eleven (11) sections/paragraphs.  

    1. Paragraph 1: The first paragraph contains a description of the artifact(s) to give it perspective for the evaluator.  Provide a description of what is in the artifact itself as well as why the artifact was created.  It would be important to tell whether it was created for a particular course, grade level of students, subject area it covers, and whether if it was actually taught within a field experience (student teachers MUST teach their unit plans).   For the Pre-Student Teaching benchmark, it is not necessary to actually teach lessons/unit plans as your artifacts.   

    2. Paragraphs 2-11: The following ten (10) paragraphs correspond with the ten WTES standards.  Candidates need at least one paragraph for each standard.  Begin each of these paragraphs begin with the Standard and the general stem of the standard.  Candidates do not need to cite specific standard knowledge, skills, and/or dispositions from the standards within narrative paragraphs.  Candidates MUST receive at least the "Proficient" level rating as found on the rubric to pass the benchmark.

    Computer Process Directions:

    1. Upload your artifact(s)/unit plan and narrative statement into the D2L site as pdf files.

    2. Create the D2L presentation using the template. (If you are doing a Post Student Teaching Portfolio, you can add to your previous portfolio template.) ( How to Edit a Presentation)

    3. Upload your presentation to the D2L dropbox. ( How to Upload a Presentation )

    4. Portfolio evaluators must be able to open all artifacts and narrative statement.   

    5. Portfolio evaluators will provide feedback within the D2L dropbox.
