Meeting Minutes - 3/29/09

Teeter Totter-athon

-Ashley (koerner.ashl@students.uwlax.edu) came into the meeting to talk about the Teeter Totter-athon on April 23rd and 24th.

-Sign-up for teetering went around. Contact her if you’d still like to teeter.

-Also, they are selling t-shirts. One will be tie-dye and costs $13 and another will be teal and costs $8.

-Let Ashley know if you want a t-shirt.

 

Senate Update

-Medical Amnesty Protocol being discussed.

-This protocol would grant protection for students in the residence halls if a student calls for another person in need of serious medical attention because of drugs or alcohol.

-The hope is that the protocol will encourage more people to call for help instead of worrying about getting a ticket. 

 

Advisor Update

-Get published in the Student Monograph (Submissions due sometime in January).

-A faculty sponsor is needed.

-Look at some of the projects that you’re doing now and submit them!

-Tables will be set up in Cartwright from 10am-3pm on Wednesday, April 1st, and Monday, April 6th. Sign up with Steph.

-Help Andrea Weiler with advertising for the event.

Washington DC Advocacy Summit Presentation- Blair and Gena

-While in DC they learned about the stimulus package, the REACH program, and many other CDC programs.

-Talked to legislators from Wisconsin and Minnesota.

-Important to go in with an “ASK” and tell personal stories when you’re advocating for something.

- Incorporating storytelling when advocating:

-Value- what you and the legislator both value

-Barriers what the legislator sees as a problem usually due to cost

-Ask- what you want

-Vision- what the legislator visions

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Fundraising

-Cold Stone fundraiser on Thursday, April 6th

-Must have a sheet of paper to present in order for Eta Sigma Gamma to get the $1.00 donation

-Will be available on the website to print off and give to your friends!

-Brat Barn is scheduled for the first weekend in May. Sign-up at next meeting.

-Cookbooks will be sold at Food Cultures Night
