Draft Policy Changes – CAPS Committee
1. Course Repeat Policy – consistent with course repeat policies at UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh. Courses can be repeated only once.
DRAFT LANGUAGE:
The privilege of repeating coursework allows students to attain a satisfactory level of achievement in courses in which they initially encountered difficulties. A course in which a grade of D or below or a W was originally earned may be repeated once. Because a course can be repeated only once, students will discuss with their academic advisers the reasons for their low grade or W in the course before attempting the course a second time. It is the student's responsibility to obtain assistance to sharpen their skills or resolve the problems that led to poor performance or non completion the first time they took the course.
NOTE: In extenuating circumstances, the Associate Dean of a College in which the course is offered may give permission for the second repeat of a course. Such permission may be requested upon recommendation of the student's academic adviser.
2. Grade recorded for repeat courses - current policy states “When a course in which a student has previously earned a “D” or “F” is repeated, the grade earned in repetition will supersede the previously recorded grade.
DRAFT LANGUAGE
When a course in which a student has previously earned a “D” or “F” is repeated, the grade earned in repetition as well as the original grade will be used in the calculation of the student’s cumulative GPA.
