Academic Planning

·         Review the approval guidelines for credit and non-credit bearing certificate programs, and make recommendations about the approval guidelines.  Specifically, please consider the appropriateness of the procedures for approval.

·         Complete reviews of current certificate programs by the end of the Fall 2007 semester.

Academic Policies & Standards (CAPS)

Create a set meeting time for the committee.

Create a matrix showing the likelihood of admission using trend data and data from the most recent classes. CAPS will review the matrix each year and update it as necessary. 

Academic Program Review

No special charge.

Articles & By-laws

Develop by-law for Research and Grants committee to “inform grant applicants of their award.  Applicants who do not receive money shall be given reasons for their denial.”

Budget Review Committee

No special charge.

Complaints, Grievances, Appeals & Academic Freedom (CGAAF)

No special charge.

Consultative Layoff

No special charge.

Faculty Development

Write a plan that outlines how faculty development monies are promoted and advertised to faculty and instructional academic staff to attract the maximum number of quality applicants.  The plan should include a procedure to evaluate the effectiveness of the advertising efforts in attracting the maximum number of quality applicants.

General Education

Review and make recommendations for the LX 140 form for proposing new courses to be included in the University Core Curriculum.

Graduate Council

·         Specify issues faced by graduate students as identified in 2006-2007 committee meeting discussions and the survey of graduate students.

·         Create strategies to implement an action plan to address to address identified issues.  The committee may consider reviewing graduate student policies and practices at similar institutions to help in the creation of these strategies.

Graduate Curriculum

No special charge.

Hearing

No special charge.

IAS

·         Address the issue of contracts (length, wording, type). 

·         Investigate the promotion appeals processes currently in place to determine if the current process could apply to IAS appeals or if an entirely new structure is necessary. Mid to late spring for both.

International Education

·         Make recommendations on the development of an international/ethnicity-themed experience in which interested UW-L students could participate. 

·         Facilitate a discussion around international student housing concerns between ISO representatives, the Director of OIE, and Nick Nicholas in housing.  Such a discussion may lead to a solution to the housing problem with which everyone is comfortable.

Library

·         Recommend strategies to deal with rising periodical costs and increased requests of electronic articles.

·         Pursue technology fees for additional laptops in Murphy Library.

Promotion, Tenure & Salary (PTS)

·         Investigate and report on college procedures for compensating department chairs.  Please include any recommendations in your report.

·         Investigate and make recommendations for the addition of a “longevity bump” as a method to formally address salary compression issues.

·         Make recommendations about pay plan uses in the second year of the biennium.  Address both the chancellor’s discretionary 10% and the merit/solid performance split.

·         Investigate the previous uses of “Star Fund” monies, and make recommendations for future uses.

Teacher Education Governing Council

No special charge.

Undergraduate Curriculum (UCC)

·        Gather more input from departments and colleges about the recommendation from GEC for B.S. and B.A. requirements and make recommendations about the proposal.   Please consult with the GEC as you make recommendation.

·         Development of a policy regarding the listing of courses and counting of credits required for majors.

·         Make recommendations about under what conditions departments may be allowed to offer required courses only during short-term sessions (i.e., J-term, summer) and how students will be informed of those requirements. 

Undergraduate Research

·         Determine the appropriate committee responsibilities regarding the Celebration of Student Research and make recommendations for administrative assistance.
