The eighth and final meeting of the Spring Semester 2001 for the Undergraduate Research Committee began at 5:40pm Monday, April 30.

Present: Lloyd Bogart, Bonnie Bratina, Anne Galbraith, Bill Gresens, Colleen Miron, Aaron Monte, and Rick Rodrick, Chia-Chen Yu, and special guest Ron Rada, Interim Provost.

Ron attended the meeting to get "debriefed" on the Celebration and also to let the committee know that he and the Chancellor are very supportive of the efforts of the committee to strengthen the presence of undergraduate research at UW-L.

The bulk of the meeting was spent brainstorming about ways to improve next year's Celebration (the 5th annual) which will be held on Friday, April 12th.

A list of items was made that will be discussed and/or worked on in the fall:

·         the possibility of having a small grant program with a fall deadline in addition to the usual spring grant program

·         the brochure

·         improving and updating the web page

·         budget issues

·         planning of the Celebration

It was discussed that we should work at finding out how other schools obtain funding for undergraduate research by means other than differential tuition.

Rick mentioned that he would like to have a panel at Faculty Research Day to discuss the benefits of using undergraduate researchers in a faculty member's scholarship program. If anyone is interested in being on the panel, or knows someone who would be good, please contact Rick.

Meeting ended at 6:45 pm.
