GRADUATE COUNCIL MEETING
Minutes-Monday, April 8, 2002-9:00 a.m.
325 Graff Main Hall

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Dan Duquette, Chair.

1.            Approval of the minutes of March 25, 2002.

 M/S/P to approve the minutes of March 25, 2002.

2.            Finalize Graduate Policy: Dan passed out the final revision of the Graduate Faculty Policy.  The Graduate Council reviewed the draft, and discussed the policy. Minor modifications were suggested.  The modifications will me made and it will be presented to the Faculty Senate for approval.

M/S/P to approve the Graduate Faculty Policy with modifications.  (7 yes. 0 no)

3.         Dan passed hand-outs of the revised Graduate Faculty Criteria and the Graduate Faculty Membership Procedures for Submission. The Graduate Council reviewed the Graduate Faculty Criteria and Graduate Faculty Membership Procedures for Submission.  The Criteria and Procedures for Submission were discussed at length by the Graduate Council.  Suggestions were given to Dan by the council members, he will incorporate these suggestions and present the documents to the Faculty Senate.

4.         The final hand-out given to the council by Dan, is a new document “Graduate Faculty Membership Application”.  Dan created this document to eliminate the need for the excessive paperwork that is required when applying for Graduate Faculty Membership.  The application was discussed at length, and suggestions were made by the council members.  The suggestions given to Dan will be incorporated in the document that will be presented to the Faculty Senate.  This document should prove to be very efficient, and time saving.

First time applicants applying for Graduate Faculty Membership, will be required to submit a complete c.v./resume with the appropriate letters.

A motion was made to approve the following documents to be presented to the Faculty Senate:  Graduate Faculty Criteria, Graduate Faculty Membership Procedures for Submission, and Graduate Faculty Membership Application.

M/S/P to approve the Graduate Faculty Criteria, Graduate Faculty Membership Procedures for Submission, and the Graduate Faculty Membership Application with modifications.  (7 yes, 0 no)

M/S/P to adjourn meeting.
