5. First Readings:
Proposal #1,
BIO 490/590, Current Topics in Biology Education,
1-3 credits, description, effective Spring 2003.
Biological researchers produce new discoveries almost
daily. The purpose of this course is to train K-12 pre-service and in-service
teachers in the current technologies and theories used in biology and to
demonstrate the current approaches to teaching these materials. Repeatable for
credit under different topics. Not applicable to a major or minor in biology.
Departmental option for Pass/Fail grading.

the second reading and approve the proposal
6. Consent Agenda:
Reinstate MIC
752, Clinical Laboratory Management, 2 credits. Microbiology
originally wanted to delete this course in order to combine it with classes in
the Medical Science Laboratory Program. This
Program is currently on hold, therefore, Microbiology needs to reinstate MIC 752
until the Program in implemented.

reinstate MIC 752.
7. Old Business
Ron Rada updated the committee regarding the draft guidelines for the approval
processes for credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing certificate programs.
This process has been changed to a 2-year pilot study, and currently is
being reviewed by Faculty Senate.
8. New Business
The deadline for submitting proposals was previously the Thursday prior to
the scheduled GCC meeting. The
committee was in favor of keeping the GCC deadline the same as the UCC deadline
which is noon on the Wednesday prior to the scheduled UCC meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 4:05 p.m. The
next GCC meeting is October 1, 2002.
