Proposal #4, GEO/ESC 481/581, Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cr. 3. revise description, prerequisites, effective spring 2005

An introduction to both theoretical and applied aspects of Geographic Information Systems. GIS software with an emphasis on ARCGIS will be used to analyze management of resources, environmental assessment, business location, and urban/regional planning.  Topics will include: data organization, input techniques, map design, map output, data quality, and geographic analysis of spatial data. Prerequisites: MTH 145 or 250.

GEO/ESC 485/585, Advances Geographic Information Systems, cr. 3., revise description, effective spring 2005

Advanced theories in GIS database structures, advanced applications, database transfers, database management, use of census data, spatial analysis, decision-making.  Emphasis on ARCGIS and its applications.  Integration of GIS with Remote Sensing and GPS.  Prerequisites: GEO 481. Offered Sem II.

Proposal # 5, PSY 402/502, Personality Theories, Models and Measures, 3 cr. revise description and outline/objective, effective spring 2005

Exploration and evaluation of major theories of personality.  Particular attention is paid to psychoanalytic, neopsychoanalytic, behavioral, trait and humanistic theories of personality.  This course will also address current research in the field of personality psychology and issues in personality measurement.

 

PSY 435/535, Cognitive Process, 3 cr., revise description, outline, effective spring 2005

This course examines theories, models, and related experimental research concerning human mental processes.  Topics include acquisition of information, memory, decision-making, problem solving, and language.

Proposal #6, CLI 440/540, Clinical Parasitology, 1 cr., New course at graduate level (convert to slash), effective spring 2005

Course covers important parasites of humans including zoonoses, emerging parasitic diseases.  Life cycles, clinical features, infective diagnostic stages will be included in the lecture component.  The laboratory will include demonstrations and diagnostic procedures.  This course will provide the necessary pre-clinical competencies required for advancement to the clinical education component of the Clinical Laboratory Science program.  Prerequisites: Admission into the CLS or Clinical Microbiology M.S. program and MCI 230. This course will serve as elective in Clinical Microbiology graduate program.

 

It was discussed to have the statement “not open to students who have completed BIO 406/506” added to the prerequisites. There will be a second reading.

Proposal #7, Doctor in Physical Therapy, 112 cr., new program, effective summer 2005.

UW-La Crosse and UW-Milwaukee are partnering to offer a Doctor in PT degree. The degree will be awarded by the UWL/UWM consortium. This is a clinical doctorate, not a research/PhD degree. A DPT allows for the PT practitioner to be a point of entry into the healthcare system rather than a referral. The curriculum is nine semesters long. Six semesters will emphasize classroom and laboratory learning and take place on the UWL campus. The final three semesters will be comprised of internships that take place off campus and culminate with students returning to campus for a one-week debriefing session where they will present an assigned clinical project.  Entrance into the program is competitive and students will be selected based upon their application portfolio.  Not all who apply will be admitted.  UWL is responsible for the Entry-level Track, for students seeking an entry-level degree in PT. There also will be a transitional Track for students who already are licensed PTs. UWM will be responsible for this program, primarily distance ed. This is not in place yet. The DPT has received entitlement to plan and will go before the Board for authorization to implement.  The program will continue with dual degree arrangements with biology and physics.

The proposers explained the program and the partnership, then reviewed each course. The following suggestions/clarifications were made.

                The current students will complete the MSPT. The last class will graduate Dec. 2006.

A statement that makes it clear that all students who apply will not be accepted should be added.

The PAS internship hours and credits/wk differ from PT and OT. All are consistent with the respective national standards.

ESS should be consulted about the program because of potential overlap with numerous courses. This was done for the MSPT, but consultation should be repeated for the new degree.

DPT 412/512 will not be cross-listed

DPT 414/514 and OT 425/525 are cross-listed, so numbers much match.

DPT 611and OT 627 course descriptions and numbers need to match because they are cross-listed.

DPT 631 add a phrase to the description mentioning diversity

DPT 651 takes place during J Term. Should it be a J Term course?       

DPT 724—HEHP dept chair directed PT to consult with Gilmore, MPH program director regarding potential overlap. Resulted in slight wording change in description.

DPT 743 should be letter graded
