I.                    Consideration of Writing Emphasis Matters

A.     Writing in the Major Revision: CST

1.      M (Udermann)/S (Prucha)/ P (unanimously) to approve revision

B.     Writing Emphasis Instructor Certification Requests

1.      Keith Beyer – CHEM 314

a.       Presented informal and formal writing components for the course

b.      M (Riley) / S (Udermann) / P (unanimously) to waive second reading and approve request.

2.      Barb Gander – ECE 324/524

a.       Presented informal and formal writing components for the course

b.      M (Prucha) /S (Udermann) /P (unanimously) to waive second reading and approve request.

3.      Harun Rashid – GEO/ESC 427 and GEO 460/560

a.       Presented formal writing components for the course

b.      Lacked informal writing component therefore it was recommended that this request be revised and resubmitted.

c.       Request will be resubmitted for the next GEC meeting, March 19, 2007.

4.      Omar Rivera – PHIL 205

a.       Presented formal and informal writing components for the course

b.      M (McDougal) /S (Riley) / P (unanimously) to waive second reading and approve request.

5.      Jim Finch – MKT 309

a.       T. Beck supports proposal

b.      M (Udermann) /S (Miller) / P (unanimously) to waive second reading and approve request.

6.      Andrew Hamilton – HIST 102

a.       T. Beck states Hamilton understand informal and formal writing well.

b.      M (Ragan) /S (Ritterling) / P (unanimously) to waive second reading and approve request.

 

II.                 Consideration of New Courses for General Education:

A.      “German Literature in Translation” presented by D. Stroud

1.      Discussion about the course

2.      Concern about assessment of learning outcomes

3.      M (Udermann) /S (Prucha) / P (unanimously) to approve the course

B.      “Art and the Meaning of Maps” presented by G. Chu

1.      Discussion about the course

2.      Letter from the School of Arts & Communication Chairs Council submitted requesting the course not be approved for the Aesthetic Perspective and Meaning Category of Gen Ed.

3.      Discussion was tabled until next meeting due to concern over the category placement and number of credit hours

4.      Will be comparing other courses i.e. photography with this course at the next meeting

III.               Due to time, the rest of the agenda was not discussed

IV.              M/S/P to adjourn at 5:30pm. Next meeting will be March 19, 2007 at 3:30pm.
