GRADUATE COUNCIL MINUTES

Wednesday, January 17, 2007-9:00 a.m.

Others Present:         Michele Thorman, Graduate Student 2 (appealing academic dismissal)

1.  The meeting was called to order at 9:04 am. by William Schwan.  The Council was in closed session as provided in sections 19.85 (1) (F) of Wisconsin.

2.   William Schwan advised the Graduate Council of an additional academic appeal to be heard Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:00.

3.  Academic dismissal appeal by Science and Health/Physical Therapy program Student. 

• Michele Thorman, the Director of Physical Therapy program gave an overview of the appeal and the Physical Therapy program’s decision to approve the student’s readmission into the program.  The Council asked questions and clarifications from the graduate program director.  Student 2 was invited into the meeting and read a statement that outlined a plan for academic improvement.  The Council asked questions of the student.  The student and program director were excused.  A discussion by the Graduate Council followed.  A motion was made by Gary Gilmore to allow the student to return to the program; it was seconded by S.N. Rajagopal.  The Council voted to approve the appeal for the student to continue in the Physical Therapy Program with the stipulation that Student 2 attain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or more by the end of Spring 2007.  (9 yes, 0 no, 0 abstention).   

Motion carried.
