(appealing academic dismissal)
1. The meeting was called to order at 10:00
am. by William Schwan. The Council was in closed session as provided in
sections 19.85 (1) (F) of Wisconsin.
2. Academic dismissal appeal by College of
Business/MBA program Student.
- Lise Graham, the
Director of MBA program gave an overview of the appeal and the MBA program’s
decision to approve the student’s readmission into the program. The Council
asked questions and clarifications from the graduate program director.
Student 3 was invited into the meeting and described the circumstances
leading to the student receiving an F and the plan for grade improvement.
The student will either retake BUS 760 or take Independent Study; however,
the F will remain on the transcript and be used in the student’s GPA
calculation. The Council asked questions of the student. The student and
Amelia Dittman were excused. A discussion by the Graduate Council
followed. A motion was made by Jonathan Majak to allow the student
readmission to graduate studies on probation; it was seconded by S.N.
Rajagopal. Approving the appeal means that the student will need to receive
A’s in all remaining coursework (3 courses-BUS 760 plus 2 electives) to
achieve the 3.0 GPA required for graduation. (9 yes, 0 no, 2 abstention).
Motion carried.
Meeting adjourned:
