Information For Borrowers

Preferred Lender List (Alternative Loans)
Students who need additional funds for education, beyond what was awarded on their financial aid award letter, might consider an alternative (or private) student loan. These loans are private educational loans from a lender and are not guaranteed by the federal government. Approval of an alternative loan is based on creditworthiness. Most students will require a co-signer.

UW-La Crosse does not enter into preferred lender arrangements with specific lenders. Any lender who has had at least 3 students borrow from their alternative loan program is eligible to have their alternative loan listed on FastChoice, the online tool available to UW-La Crosse students, and the lender is responsible for maintaining the information regarding their loan(s) on FastChoice.

Students may choose any lender for their private loans, even if that lender is not listed on FastChoice.
