Admission to the UW-L School Psychology Program

Admission involves a two-step process that must be completed by January 15 to receive full consideration.

  • Complete official transcripts of all higher education campuses.

  • Scores on the GRE general section: Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing.

  • GRE subject test for Psychology is not required of any applicant. However, the GRE subject test for Psychology strongly recommended for the following applicants:


  • If your GPA for the last two years is below 3.25, or


  • If you have graduated without majoring in psychology.

3. (Optional) Apply for a Graduate Assistantship

After these materials are submitted, they are reviewed by the Admissions Committee consisting of Program Faculty, a member of the psychology department and graduate assistants in the School Psychology program.

The focus of the Admissions Committee is assessing your academic potential to complete graduate studies, your professional work characteristics, and your potential as a future school psychologist to impact the lives of children. The National Association of School Psychologists advocates for the following professional work characteristics:

(1)   respect for human diversity,

(2)   communication skills,

(3)   effective interpersonal relations,

(4)   ethical responsibility,

(5)   adaptability, and

(6)   initiative/dependability.

Some applicants will be invited for a personal interview with the Admissions Committee. Applicants will also be able to talk with current school psychology students and tour the campus and program facilities.
