What is the Annual Benefits Enrollment Period?

The Annual Benefits Enrollment (ABE) period, October 5-30, is the only opportunity to make changes to your benefits unless you have an eligible family status or employment change during the year. There will be many important changes to the State Group Health Insurance plans for 2016. Visit the ABE website for detailed information about these changes. All changes made during the enrollment period are effective January 1, 2016.

High Deductible Health Plans Informational Sessions

The changes in state employee health insurances mean that managing your healthcare expenses may be one of your top priorities.

Increasingly common, high deductible health plans or HDHPs are characterized by lower premiums and higher deductibles. If you are interested in learning more about: how the It’s Your Choice (IYC) HDHP plan works, how it is different from the IYC plan, whether enrolling in a HDHP makes sense to your family and about health savings accounts (HSA) please join Beth Hill, Assistant Director of Payroll and Benefits, for an informational session on the subject.

    Flexible Spending Account Informational Sessions

The IRS allows participants to contribute to their flexible spending accounts or FSA through payroll deductions taken out on a pre-tax basis. This means the money is deducted from your pay before federal and state income taxes and Social Security have been withheld. Thus, your taxable income is lowered, which in turn reduces the amount of taxes you must pay. There are two types of FSAs – one is for health care-related expenses and the other is for dependent care-related expenses.

If you are interested in learning more about this tax-savings benefit please join Beth Hill, Assistant Director of Payroll and Benefits for an informational session on the subject.
