WHAT IS OMSS?
The Office of Multicultural Student Services, established in 1972, promotes intercultural learning and understanding.
OMSS honors and respects all students and in particular, serves American students of color from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. We affirm each students' cultural tradition while challenging students to become academic and cultural leaders within their own communities as well as in the diverse world.
OMSS supports the UW-L mission and is committed to the development of a campus community that values and promotes diversity of thought and experience. OMSS is dedicated to improving the retention and graduation of underrepresented populations.
We support collaborative efforts that share this vision, as well as efforts to promote human understanding, shared values, and respect for individual differences and similarities.
OMSS helps students’ foster better relationships; promote awareness of individual cultures on the campus and in the community; and provides opportunities and means of self expression through cultural, social and recreational activity.
